There is nothing like standing for hours for bringing out the worst in your legs if you have varicose veins. All of these worsen stagnant circulation – the failure of the body to push blood back up the legs to the heart and lungs effectively.
It happens when you are stuck in sedentary jobs, or when you’re forced to stand for a long time. It is worse if you’re pregnant, carrying extra weight, or have weak veins inherited from your family or left over from previous pregnancies or sedentary occupations. It also gets worse as you get older, and if you’re constipated!
The veins should be able to propel blood back up the body with the help of the pumping action of the calf muscles. When this is hampered, the volume of blood in the leg veins increases and the veins start to bulge.
The valves found in the veins (to prevent backflow of blood) cease to function properly because they can’t close across the distended veins. More blood stagnates in the legs, and you start to feel the effects. Any of the symptoms listed above may strike you, and eventually the veins will become permanently distended and varicose.
Varicose veins are hardly attractive to the eye, and their lack of artistic merit is rivalled by the discomfort they cause their owner. If not treated, they inevitably start feeling worse and worse.
Conventional treatments include support stockings or surgery to remove or collapse the veins. Herbal options include the useof Horse Chestnut (Aesculus)extracts, such as A.Vogel Venaforce Horse Chestnut Tablets.
If your legs are feeling tired and heavy and you need to keep on your feet, rubVenagel (Horse Chestnut gel) onto your legs with an upward motion a couple of times daily.
