Also known as:
Barberry
Uses:
• Gallstones
• Digestive tonic
Description:
Berberis is a perennial shrub, native to Europe. The leaves and berries are
used medicinally.
How it works:
Berberis contains the alkaloid berberine, which stimulates the secretion of
bile and bilirubin, supporting its use for gallstones and sluggish digestive
problems. As a bitter herb, it stimulates the digestive process in a positive
way.
Additional advice:
It should not be taken alongside other medication for gallstones, or by those
with liver problems, kidney disease and inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal
tract without consulting the Doctor concerned.
